5 Pointz - NYC

When I was planning my NYC trip,

there was the looming visit to 5 Pointz that hung

 in a muck between the hubs and I.

I didn't want to go visit one of the birth places of street art without

my street art connoisseur of a husband.

Frankly, I thought he would never speak to me again if I went to mecca without him.

Jess mentioned it being one of the first places what she was going to take me

upon my arrival.  She know how much I love that shit too.

I had to graciously decline and explain the above mentioned death sentence.

So we went about our way planning our trip keeping me as far away from 

5 Pointz as humanly possible....Stay way from Long Island City!

Well much to my surprise,

as we pulled up blurry eyed and half delirious at the airport terminal 

to drop me off at the a crack of dawn,

the hubs leaned over kissed me and said:

"If you don't come to 5 Pointz 

and take a picture of every single thing, don't come home."

As you can very well guess, I was elated! 

After about 2 hours, 3 city blocks, and 195 snapshots later,

here are a few of my favorites...

Wynwood

We made a very quick trip to Wynwood this weekend.  It was a beautiful day full of great discoveries! It's amazing what parking in a different spot will do for a new found perspective and finding some art work that you've been searching for!
With all the excitement of my new magenta colored hair, I decided to share some of my favorite snap shots sharing the same hue.  And if you want to see how awesome my hair is now, look here and here!

Wynwoon: Remnants

The art is abundant in Wynwood.  Your eyes are constantly following a roller coaster or beautiful murals and mind boggling tags.  Sometimes the art isn't on the walls though.  The remnants of artists and masterpieces litter the streets and tell a store of their own.

Wynwood: Artifacts

Our adventures in Wynwood are always full of "oohs & aahhhs!", but stumbling on something like this literally left us speechless.  It was like climbing through a hole and landing in a history book.  The layers upon layers of paint and stickers were unreal, and told a rich story of who was here, and who was here before them.  Empty paint cans littered the dilapidated museum. Each corner turned left my heart racing.  What would I find? What would I see? Would someone else find or see me? It was a rush to say the least. I could have spent the entire day there, but a few quick minutes was all I got.  These are the artifacts of Wynwood.  These walls hold it's history in a secret and sacred place.  The heart and soul of a community disguised by a rough shell.  What an honor to see it for myself.

As promised, another round of my favorites from our last trip to Wynwood.  In these pictures I really focused on the simple messages.  Not all the wonders of Wynwood are huge, insane murals.  There are a lot of positive messages, sweet stickers (or slaps as they are known in the graffiti world), shout outs to lost friends, and even really cute homeless kids....oh wait, no that's my kid, filthy and taking a street nap.

Wynwood Part 1

We went to one of our favorite spots yesterday. The Wynwood Arts District in Miami is a street art lovers playground.  I always find myself with tons of pictures on my phone of some of the amazing masterpieces, but this time I bucked up and brought my real camera.  So instead of bombarding you with them all right now, I am going to break it up into a few blog posts. Wynwood Walls

if you happen to find yourself in miami and happen to be an art  fan i highly suggest that you seek out the Wynwood Art District.  nestled between downtown miami and the deep inner city ghetto is a few blocks of art galleries, awesome artsy shops, and some seriously impressive street art.  the epicenter of the whole district is the Wynwood Walls.  this gigantic outdoor gallery devoted to some of the graffiti greats features huge murals by artists like Ron English, Shepard Fairy, and Peter Tunney.  here are a few of my favorite pictures from the walls and walking the alley ways. enjoy.
