november is for giving thanks

lately i have found myself immersed in joy and thankfulness. there are so many things that we have in our lives to be thankful for that go overlooked. over the next 30 days i will document the little things that go overlooked that bring me so much joy.  i challenge you to do the same.

some of you may remember my 20 days of praise i did back over the summer to thank the hubs for everything he does.  it was just so amazing to really reflect on the things that put a smile on our faces.  i knew that i had to do a similar project again and what better way to celebrate the month of thanksgiving, by giving thanks.

note: these images are not always going to be perfect pictures, but that's sometimes what happens when trying to capture an exact moment.  so please don't judge my photography by these images, they were all taken with my phone, but that's half the fun of it.

be thankful. show gratitude. enjoy.

directory B

earlier this week i woke up to an email saying...."it's finally up"!  i almost fell on my face when i went to the directory B website and found an enormous picture of myself followed by an awesome interview! i am so excited and honored to have been featured at the first featured blogger on this amazing new directory. if you are a blog lover you should check out the website. it's so awesome how you can search blogs by geographical location or subject matter.  a great big thanks to jessica sutton and the entire team!

10 things i couldn't live without this week

1. carving pumpkins with the family.  there is nothing better than watching your 2 year old freak out about how gross the guts of a pumpkin are....honestly i love the way they feel. weird...i know.
2. finally got all the parts and pieces to our halloween costumes! can't wait to see the boy and the hubs all dressed up.
3. our monthly meeting at work was beyond inspirational. listening to chuck hastings speak about the profitability of salon professionals really was a huge catalyst to strive for personal and professional  greatness. if you ever have the opportunity to hear him speak, take it!
4. brought the hubs to the "pretty in pink" party at the blind monk. he was a wonderful date. we snacked on popcorn and fine cheeses while watching one of our favorite brat pack movies! i was so proud to finally introduce him to the david k space crew.
5. be on the look out for more details about the art benefit for the boys and girls club of palm beach hosted by melrose telles.  we had our first meeting and it is going to be amazing!
6. we dressed up in costumes on saturday at work, and boy oh boy was it fun! it was so great to see everyone having so much fun.
7. the boy loves his new tool set that was handed down to us by a friend. there has been a day that had gone by since sunday that hasn't involved some sort of "project" with wrenches and power drills. he loves to pretend that he's daddy and fixes his toys.
8. the boy also got a john deer gator power wheels from our neighbor.  he's just a big man driving that thing around the neighborhood. and did i mention that we got it for free?!?!?! i am still in disbelief!
9. made some delish pumpkin seeds....i'll post the recipes later!
10. while i was sleeping the hubs stayed up all night working on his website that he's owned for the past four years! it's almost done and is looking great. he's also been working on some fresh beats in his spare time.....check them out!

10 things i couldn't live without this week

1. i missed dance classes this week, but it allowed me a few fun filled extra hours with the boy.
2. finally got rid of all my grey and got my hair colored. i've been rocking the super dark brown almost black hair for quite some time now and it was time for a change. one of the super talented colorist at work, Evan, came up with a beautiful color story of reds and coppers..... my hair is awesome! thanks evan for making me feel like a new woman!
3. gave some amazing hair cuts to three of my favorite ladies this week!
4. we finally settled on our halloween costumes.  we made the mistake last weekend of taking the boy to the costume shop.  i know now that was way too overwhelming for a 2 year old.
5. we met our friends at boo at the zoo on friday. what a magical adventure to be in the zoo after dark. it was so great to see all our friends and get dressed up in costumes.
6. the hubs brought it to my attention a few weeks ago that he was growing tired of chicken.  there is an on going joke that all i ever cook is chicken and rice and veggies anymore. so this week was chicken free. it was fun coming up with other easy dinners that didn't involve those little cluckers. i think i may go for the challenge a second week in a row.
7. i have had the privilege of meeting some really amazing people at work, not just the people that i work with, but also clients. every once in a while i meet someone that really moves and inspires me. this was one of those weeks. i met a woman with a very sad story about illness, hair loss, and sorrow.  but instead of focusing on the terrible, she was looking forward to a new beautiful life.  watching the transformation as parker took from no style to super chic was amazing, but watching the transformation on her face was what really moved me! by the time the client was walking out the door we both had lumps in our throat. i love my job.
8. speaking of parker....i got an amazing hair cut this week!
9. the hubs and i went out for a little fun with friends this weekend.  i love it when we get to go out and have some normal adult behavior! love that man.
10.  we had a little family fun time at bedner's farm. unfortunately we were too late for the hay ride, but we had a blast at the farmers market and pumpkin patch! if you are in the palm beach area i highly recommend making the trip. but take from me....go early!

joys of parenting: halloween

i feel the need to make a small confession...

halloween is quickly approaching and my amazing new job is keeping me busy.
making costumes this year was put on the back burner (ie...i procrastinated).
took the boy to the halloween store....bad idea.
i purchased a pre-made batman costume.
i am not proud of my self.....but the boy looks so cute!

10 things i couldn't live with out this week

1. coffee...which was made even more apparent this morning at 6am when i realized we were out. wah!
2. catching up on season one of the walking dead with the hubs. i think that i made his year when i told him that i wanted to watch it before season two started.  he loves horror movies and i DON'T...but an artfully done zombie series with an actually story line....we can compromise on that!
3. homemade ribs....all i can say is yum yum!
4. this week at work my coworkers really started to let their true colors show....no more behaving for the new girl.  and i have to say i love them even more than before....there was tap dancing in the break room, fake british accent take out orders, and amazing conversations about hair.
5. i finally found the perfect/fastest route to work, and it just so happens to be right along the intercoastal water way.  driving down flagler for twenty minutes is the best way to start and end my work day!
6. the hubs has been like super dad this week. we are all settling down into our new routines and adjusting.  the hubs has been busting his bum around the house helping with the boy and the chores. how did i get so lucky?
7. i decided that for the month of november in honor of "thanksgiving" i will be doing another gratitude project. a photograph of something that i am thankful for for every day of the month. i really hope that you guys all enjoy this project and that you all join in with me and reflect on the things that we are thankful for!
8. we have a change in the weather down here this weekend and i have to say i really like it. with the exception of the gloominess (which isn't even that bad after all the sun). it's been very windy and not humid at all.  fall is coming...almost time for windows open!
9. took the boy and the hubs costume shopping today....what a bust.
10. funkin craft pumpkins (carvable foam pumpkins)....can't wait to see how this project turns out.

happy fall

with the south florida heat we have had to come up with some different ways to decorate pumpkins.
so the boy and i busted out the fall color paints and glitter and went to town on our gourd.
happy fall!

10 things i couldn't live without this week

1. first and for most i have to give a huge shout to the hubs! there is absolutely no way i would have made it through this week without him! he's been such a huge help with all the changes happening in our house.  i love him more than words can explain for allowing me the opportunity to live out my dreams!
2. i officially started my new job this week. everyone at the david k space has made my first week so amazing! i have learned so many new things and made a great new group of friends! a huge thanks is in order for making me feel so welcome!
3. i wore more make up this week than i have have in the entire past year.  i forgot how good it feels to look pretty everyday.
4. the boy started his first day of pre-school this week. the transition has been a little hard on everyone, and i am not going to lie, i have cried on more than one occasion about being away from him. but he really seems to be loving it! i also really think that i can already see a big difference in his behavior, speech, and agility.
5. i mentioned to the hubs that i wanted some kind of cool box to keep all my make up in and that man built me one out of broken skateboard decks. wait until you see this thing.....he never stops amazing me! and i have finally convinced him to make me some skateboard jewelry....i can't wait for our next day off!
6. the season premier of dexter....need i say more?
7. we walked/hid from the rain the 2011 making strides against breast cancer walk today with the hubs work friends.  we always enjoy this event, but this year we had horrible rain and wind to the point where we had to bail out of the walk and run for cover. the poor boy was soaked and freezing. so we waited at the finish line for the rest of the group and then made our way out for lunch.  what a great way to spend a sunday morning.
8. i have always been a mom that swore against the family bumper stickers. you know the one's with the mom and dad and the kids and pets.  the hubs and i were just too cool for that! haha well guess who's is sporting stickers on the back of her car? that's right....me. my sister in law found the cutes/coolest family stickers! each one of us is represented by a skull and cross bone, the boys with mohawks and my with a bow....and there is even a puppy skull and cross bone for stella.
9. i had never made ribs before and after the hubs nicely brought it to my attention that all i ever cook anymore is chicken, i thought i would venture out of my comfort zone and make his favorite....ribs!  well i have to tell you, i nailed it. they were so good and so easy! now that i know, he can expect to be seeing them more often!
10. my uncle left me one of the nicest messages that just made my week, so i have to share. larry said:
You have always been a beautiful child!
But the beauty of your soul and spirit
as a woman and a mother
continue to grow and blossom.
May you be happy for all of your years!

10 things i couldn't live without this week

1.  a double dose of dance class again this week. so my classes are on monday nights, and i am still sore from last monday.
2. wrapped up an amazing week long "stay-cation" with the hubs. we got so much done around the house and so many fun family moments!
3. got to join the amazing davidk space crew for staff movie night at the blind monk.  chris rock's good hair was hilarious and my new co-workers are awesome!
4. got some amazing thirfty finds this week! check them out here and here.
5. i found myself up to my elbow in potting soil a few times this week.  i finished my hanging succulent wall garden, added a ton of new succulents to the garden family, and repotted a ton of clippings.
6. the burton's hosted a kids craft day where we started to make paper mache pumpkins! i can't wait to share pictures from this super fun day! unfortunately we didn't have time to finish the pumpkins, but i guess that means that we are going to have to have another play date!
7. i would like to proudly state that we are out of diapers! the boy has proven that (with the exception of sleeping time) he is a big boy who doesn't need those stinkin diapers any more!
8. i don't ever really do much shopping for myself, but with the new job comes new work attire! i have had so much fun this week seeking out the best deals and steals.
9. the annual stitch rock was this weekend! i just love to go see all the crafters and talented people. we ate yummy gourmet watermelon popsicles, i picked up some spicy pickles from our lady of perpetual pickles, and found the perfect earrings at the lemoree booth!
10. with the first cold front of the fall season there is nothing more perfect than heading to the beach.  a "cold front" in south florida basically means you won't die of heat when you walk outside....it's still hot, jut not as hot.... i may try to convince the hubs to take a late afternoon bike ride to the beach today!
