Today I am so super excited to share a story from my very first

GUEST BLOGGER!!!!

Melissa is a good old friend of mine from high school

and was also my first college roomie!

Sharing stories about our awesome families makes me laugh....

considering where our friendship began.

Any who,

She posted on the ole' FB yesterday about how

she dyed her toddler purple and I knew that I needed to know and share this story!

Gotta love a good Pinterest project gone wrong!

So with no further ado,

I am happy to introduce you to Melissa, her family, and her story!

Hi! I’m Melissa and I and part of an amazing weird, awkward, messy and fun loving family! My husband is a hard working amazing guy who sarcastic sense of humor is why I feel for the guy. My daughter Calleigh is the spitting image of her dad right down to her personality. The only thing she got from me is her nose! Thank god! Lol and then there's Jenna our pit. She is a amazing dog who I can't imagine life without!  My family extends far out from my immediate family and they all inspire me everyday:)

I dyed my child purple today! Thank you Pinterest!

Today was one of THOSE days! We were stuck inside all day waiting for the repair guy(who never came!Bastard!) And in an effort to save my sanity I was scrambling around trying to find anything to entertain my hyperactive 2yr old who acts more like a bipolar 30 year old who does not feel she needs naps anymore! I decided that I would give some of these Pinterest craft ideas a shot. I mean I've saved so many it's about time! We love to paint in this house so it was a natural pick to make our own paint. And bonus if it worked I could save some money. Recipe was simple: 1cup flour, 1 cup salt, 1 cup water and food coloring. Sounded great and if Calleigh accidentally, or in her case intentionally ate some of the paint it would be no big deal. So we got the paints made and she had a blast. Here is where the problem starts she gets paint everywhere and normally I don't care. Kids paint wipes right off, not this paint. The food coloring in it stains! BAD!  This is about the time I noticed that my child was covered neck down in purple paint and that she had left little hand prints on the walls! Needless to say after a good 45minutes of scrubbing Calleigh and the walls I was left with a purple child and purple hand prints all over the walls! So I did what any good mom would do took pictures and had a glass of wine!  Oh and the paintings we didn't keep. They were weird and flaky. Paint didn't stay on. A fail for Pinterest on the homemade paint but score for Calleigh who thinks being purple is AWESOME!!

I saw this on Pinterest: DIY Vintage Tee

So, I saw this tutorial for making a new t-shirt feel 

as super soft and cozy as a sweet vintage shirt,

and knew that I had to try it. 

Here is what I started with!

I love love love this shirt except for a fatal flaw...

the cotton was so thick and stiff and the neckline chokes me out.

I knew it was the perfect shirt to DIY!

I gathered all my ingredients.

Made my brine and soaked for 3 days.

Just like the tutorial said.

And do you know what happened after waiting patiently for three days

and washing?

NOTHING!

I thought that maybe I didn't use enough salt in the brine.

So I tried it again.

This time I used a full cup of salt.

Soaked for 4 days, washed and ....

NOTHING!

By this point I was ready to throw the towel in on this one,

and then the oh so lovely

Jess Youngsman, of the Doe or the Deer,

posted THIS on Instagram.

It was like it was sent to me by the DIY gods....

a sign to not give up on this project until my 

favorite band shirt was properly aged!

So I followed her directions of 

a sea salt and baking soda scrub

followed by a watered down bleach bath.

I stretched the heck out of the neck and arm holes,

washed on hot,

and the result....

welp, I was closer to my desired results.

I was left with one problem.

That claustrophobic feeling of being strangled by my neck line.

I could only think of one solution....

Out came the scissors.

I marked where I wanted the neck line to fall 

and where the straps would need to be to properly cover my bra straps.

And then...Snip Snip Snip.

Voila!

Perfectly aged.

Perfectly fit.

And I even got a little daring 

with the back and really plunged it out!

You should absolutely try this DIY, but skip all that bologna about brining your shirt.

My Pinterest Closet

So I have these awesome french terry cloth navy striped shorts.

For a while I thought they would never fit me again.

Well...they do, and that makes me very happy.

But I always have a hard time styling them.

Not to day my friend! 

I found this inspiration on Pinterest, and here is how I wore it:

What crafty lover wouldn't be!

 It's the best place to go to get inspiration and brilliant ideas.

Although I have come to find out the hard way,

that just because it on Pinterest,

doesn't mean it's true!

So why not a fun little segment?

And so...

"I saw this on Pinterest" 

was born.

I will test it and share it with you!

Saving you the time and money of a back fired 

Pinterest project gone wrong.

DIY: Glitter Barrettes

So I saw these first on one of my favorite blogs, For Chic Sake, and later on 

Pinterest and had to try the DIY out ASAP!

Here's what I used:

I had some funky barrettes just taking up space. 

I never used them because I could never really match them with anything, 

and always ended up feeling a bit childish wearing them.

So why not upcycle them.

Step 1:

 

Paint each barrette with a thick layer of Mod Podge.

Step 2:

Sprinkle a generous of glitter over the 

wet Mod Podge.

Let dry completely

Step 4:

Shake off excess glitter 

and dab on a second think layer of Mod Podge.

Once they are completely dry 

slip them onto a cute piece of card stock and give as a gift,

or just keep for yourself.

So I thought it might be fun to try and emulate 

some of those adorable styles we all wish we had.

I call it:

"My Pinterest Closet"

This outfit was pretty simple and easy to 

put together.

Here's what I wore:

and the hubs hat.

Funny thing, and I didn't even plan it this way...

I went grocery shopping in this outfit too.

noodle dogs

so i saw these on pinterest the other day and knew that i had to try them out for the boy! they were super easy and he loves them! and i quote: "mommy, you are hilarious!" exactly the response i was hoping for!

simple insert raw pasta into raw cut up dogs...cook... and viola! noodle dogs!

DIY: rubber stamps

So a few months ago i saw this diy rubber stamp on pinterest and new that i wanted to make one myself - who knew it would be so easy? pinterest is the best thing to happen to diy-ers and crafters since the invention of the glue gun! if you havn't joined yet....get on that! the problem with finding all these amazing ideas on pinterest is that there are so many crafts and so few hours in the day! so i really kinda forgot about the stamp until i started planning my birthday party. a mustache party that is. so scoured the house for a rubber stamp, busted out my xacto knife, and started carving. i was really surprised how easily the knife cut the eraser.  and here is how mine turned out...

10 things i couldn't live without this week:

1.  i have really been missing the cool air and beauty of north carolina. my dad called me this week to inform me that dates were set for a family reunion this summer. it's far off, but it really gives me something to get super excited about! north carolina here i come (in august).
2. we had been going through a few weeks of extreme poor behavior from the boy. not sure if it's because he's not in daycare anymore or maybe it's the behavior sticker chart that we are using, but he's has been an angel lately. when he's good, he is just awesome to be around. he's funny and silly and polite and super smart. i just can't believe how fast it's all going by. he's getting so big and independent.
3. speaking of how big he's getting....i was reading him one of his favorite books (lady and the tramp) the other day, and he surprised me by "reading" it to me. so i went with it. we took turns reading it to each other. i'd start the sentence and he'd finish it (word for word). i know that he's not actually reading the words on the pages, but repeating words he's memorized...but that's how it all starts right.
4. i have had some amazing luck with my thrifty finds lately! i am really excited to share some awesome news with you guys soon! i'll give you a clue...turquoise violets is expanding!
5. are you guys addicted to pinterest yet? i am. i so am. it's so inspiring and awesome to see all these images in one place. but i'll tell you what's really awesome....when complete strangers start pinning images from your blog onto pinterest.  the succulent wall garden DIY that i did a few months ago seems to be gaining some serious pinterest popularity. i think that i need to do another succulent project soon!
6. there has been some seriously good food coming from my kitchen this week. but i can't stop thinking about those banana bread bites. i am pretty sure that i ate my weight in chocolate and bananas this week. any suggestions for the next baking project?
7. the hubs and i finally did it. we got a years pass to the zoo. are zoo is awesome. not too big, not too small. it is mostly shaded which is great for the summer, and there is a giant water fountain for the kiddos to play in. so excited to spend the year at the zoo!
8. the hubs and i had an amazing craft night the other night. i may have tricked him into it, but it sure was fun.
9. have you seen the movie "warrior"? holy smokes....if you haven't your really should. it's a fictional story about two brothers who are mma fighters. such a great story, amazing soundtrack, and half of the movie is fighting. so good.
10. had a great play date with the boys best little boy buddy the other day at gumbo limbo. this place is amazing. acres of natural florida wildlife, a serious observation tower, FAU's marine mammal research facility, and a sweet butterfly garden all in one place. if you are ever in the area i suggest you check it out.
