adventure time

today the boy and I went on a bike ride adventure.

we saw:
crazy kids at the park
a man sitting on a sea wall with no legs
a tiny crab
a man fishing for jelly fish
a manatee
a chicken crossing the road
a giant bug in my eye
17 dogs and more cats that we could count
a really cute dog obsessed with eating bird poop
& lots of people fishing

all in the matter of about 2 hours. it was quite an adventure. i love out town.

10 things i couldn't live without this week:

1. the hubs was out of town for work early in the week, which is always such a bummer. usually i sulk and whine while he's away just wishing that he was home. i am usually bored out of my mind. but the past few times that he's had to go i have taken it upon myself to enjoy my night. i do all kinds of super girly things. you know like before we were married and i would have ben and jerry/americas next top model marathons. well, my habits of "me time" havn't changed that much, i still love stuffing my face full of ice cream and watching mindless t.v. (except now it's marathons of storage wars) what's wrong with me?
2. the boy has started the "why's". everything i say if followed by his sweet little "why?". while i have already gotten a little tired of the question it is really cool to see his little brain trying to work. i made a pact with myself that i wasn't going to blow these questions off as annoying, or give the "because i said so" answer. he's been asking some tough ones and i honestly think that some times he just gives up because he doesn't understand the encyclopedia explanation that i am giving him, but sometimes you can tell that he's totally piecing things together and really truly understanding.
3. i have been feeling super inspired this week. i feel like everything that i see i am taking in like a sponge and these miny story boards are forming together in my head. i feel like my brain is full of really beautiful ideas and images and words. at the park i am seeing sticks that look like dinosaurs, and standing in front of a wall full of hardware i am seeing really beautiful jewelry. it's funny how the brain works.
4. i came to two really awesome realizations this week. well one really awesome and one pretty sad. the awesome one was finally figuring out what i was going to do with my blue and white polka dot dress. i couldn't be happier with the results. and the other was that what i thought i had figured out to alter my favorite dress (that i have never been able to wear) was absolutely not going to work. it was really sad to have to face the facts: i am never to going to be able to wear this dress. wah.
5. the hubs is opening a new restaurant on monday and the past week was full of training and soft opening events. the boy and i made the journey south to eat some delicious tacos and check out the new spot! it was so much fun and so yummy! we even got to see my best friend and some old friends. it was a perfect date night with the boy.
6. i took the boy to the fair on friday night with some of our friends. i didn't go to the fair much as a kid, not that i really remember any way, and none like this. the south florida fair is by far the biggest i have ever seen. it was so awesome seeing the look on his face as we walked across the fair grounds checking out all the sights and smells. it was an evening i will never forget.
7. my mom and brother and sister came into town for the weekend. it was great spending time with them and so awesome to see my brother and sister finally acting like normal people and getting along!
8. my brother and i did some volunteering for habitat for humanity on saturday. it was so much fun. i love volunteering with that organization. you get to meet some really amazing people and learn some amazing new skills at the same time. i now know how to hang dry wall like a pro!
9. i got the most amazing surprise in the mail this week from my friend kelly. first off i have to say that i love nothing more than unexpected packages! and this one was a double whammy because it included on of my other favorite things in the world....homemade pickles. i can't wait to dig into them....i am waiting for the perfect occasion (ohh....maybe tonight with slow cooked ribs! mmmmm!). the box also contained some goodies for the boy and a jar of homemade sweet corn relish that i want to eat with a spoon!
10. this has been the week of bike rides. the weather has been perfect for toting the boy to the park in the bicycle. this is quickly becoming one of our favorite pass times! he finally has the patience to sit for the entire time and has really gotten into making up stories about what we are seeing along the way. i sure do love that boys crazy imagination.

10 things i couldn't live without this week

1. we took our first official long bike ride of the "bike riding" season. this time of the year until about may we will find any accuse to ride or bikes as far as possible. while it was an amazing and fun ride we didn't plan to well with the weather and got poured on during the 2.5 mile ride home from the park. oh well....it was worth every rain drop.
2. dance has been going really well, and i can't believe that i have not announced this yet, but i am going to be dancing in the holiday showcase for my dance studio.  when my teacher asked me if i wanted to participate i answered "yes" before really thinking about what i was doing. next thing you know i am in a 8 person contemporary number, learning the steps, feeling the music, amazing. then the terror set it.....i am going to be in a dance recital? me? dancing in front of people? yikes!
3. i have always preferred to support local businesses, but sometimes we have to think about the cost of products and the money that we spend. for instance, i would love to shop the local farmers markets for produce, but it's so flippin expensive.  and while the thought of spending $300 a week in groceries sounds like fun (not) it's just not in the budget to shop local/green/organic all the time. but i think that i have found the perfect solution in the meat department. a friend of mine introduced me to charlie's gourmet meat market. charlie's is an old fashioned butcher with amazing amazing amazing products. the store offers packages of meats custom fit for your family size that last about 2-3 weeks. (at a very affordable price) the quality of the meat is better than any grocer and the fact that it's all wrapped in butcher's paper just puts a big smile on my face. so if you are in the area, and looking for a good butcher.....check out charlie's!
4. the hubs had to travel to orlando for work this week, and while i always hate when he has to spend the night there, i always really enjoy the night to myself. i don't ever turn the tv on, usually get lot's of crafting/blogging done, and eat the least balanced meal possible for dinner.
5. we finally found out what was wrong with the boys tummy.  while we are still concerned about his belly it's nice to have that weight of not knowing of our shoulders.
6. so the hubs finally talked me into getting twitter. i have fought it for so long, but seeing how well the hubs has been doing with marketing his blog, i figured i should get my tweet on.
7. i got a box full of clothes from a good friend this week. all full of things she was done with that she thought i could refashion into something new and amazing. i am not going to lie....some of the stuff i love just the way it is, some needs altering, and some are going to get a whole new lease on life.
8. i am so excited that "movember" month is catching on! support those you know that are growing their 'stache for a good cause.....and i'll keep rocking my mustache shirts!
9. "satur-daddy-day" as become a huge hit!
10. the whole reason that this post is a day late is because sunday we spent the entire day doing nothing but fun family activities! we went exploring at okeeheelee nature center. stay tuned for fun pictures from our day!

10 things i couldn't live without this week:

1. i received one of the nicest text messages this week. i think that friends should say more things like this to each other. i have been trying to pay it forward ever since this showed up in my inbox:
ma weeks: "addicted to your blog and have fallen more in love with you. really want to see your clothes. i've always wanted to make my own too! you are inspiring!"
2.seattle's best #3. loving that seattle's best coffee finally made buying coffee easy. i always get sucked in to the pretty labels and fufu flavors, but when it comes down to it, i just really want a good cup of medium roast coffee.
3. dino tails.....and the cuteness that ensues when the boy wears his all day. this is hands down on of my favorite things that i have ever made.
4. eggplant dip. the awesome melissa testa of gourmet all the way shared this recipe with me. it was so delicious and so easy. it was the first time i had ever cooked with eggplant, so i was a bit intimidated, but it's all apart of the new plan. next on the list of veggies to try...yuca.
5. the new plan (nice segway right?). i always have tried to balance the healthy with the indulgent. the new plan involves a major swing in the ratio between real food that grows to processed foods. so far it's been a lot of fun stepping outside my culinary box.
6. kleenex. for my snot nosed monster.
7. surprise visitor ryan mcclean.
8. the last ballet class of the semester. i am so sad that class is over for the next few weeks. i met some really amazing women in that class (even though they were all over the age of 65), and can't wait to spend my saturday mornings with them again.
9. a giant $3 yard sale score. you wont believe all the stuff i found. pictures soon.
10. a fantastic family fun weekend. it was full of walks and throwing rocks into the inter-coastal and bike rides and amazing dinners. can't wait for the next one. hope you all had a great weekend too.
